Spinal Rehabilitation

Temporo-Mandibular Joint Disorders (TMD/TMJ)

Spinal rehabilitation refers to problems with your neck or back. It is a subspecialty of orthopedic and manual therapy. Because of the unique structure of the spine and special problems related to this area, specialized training is necessary to ensure appropriate treatment.. A thorough evaluation will be performed to identify movements, positions, and activities that aggravate the condition as well as those that will decrease symptoms.
The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) estimates that 80% of the population suffers from back pain at some stage of their lives. Disc or facet joint malfunction are often the cause of such pain and are often the underlying cause of muscle spasm which is often seen in the back. Our accurate assessment of signs and symptoms, with skilled manual therapy treatment, can provide both pain relief as well as accelerated healing for such back-related injuries.

Dentists and physical therapists work together in the treatment of these disorders, with PTs also addressing cervical spine disorders which commonly are associated with temporomandibular joint disorders. A reduction in cervical restriction can assist in decreasing the stress and inflammation placed on the tempromandibular joint. It is also important to differentiate between the symptoms caused by each area and treat each component of the problem to optimally restore joint function and mechanics. Skilled manual therapy, in conjunction with targeted movements, can be particularly effective in treating these conditions.

Headaches/Migranes

Temporo-Mandibular Joint Disorders (TMD/TMJ)

Headaches/Migranes

Headaches may present anywhere above the neck, including the face. Common sites are at the base of the skull, side of the head, forehead and around the eyes. Although headaches are often caused by a variety of factors, one of the more common is an injured or damaged joint(s) on the upper part of the cervical spine (neck) and also changes in muscle activity around the spine. Relief can often be achieved by improving mobility in the affected area and also targeting the muscle groups that are overworking and also underworking.

Rehabilitation

Temporo-Mandibular Joint Disorders (TMD/TMJ)

Headaches/Migranes

Effective rehabilitation of physical injuries is essential to return to normal activities and prevent injuries from recurring. The use of specific manual techniques in conjunction with well controlled and targeted exercise promotes and accelerates recovery. Following injury or surgery, our goals include the restoration of normal functional movement in a controlled environment ultimately leading to a return to pain free activity on your own.
